TOY HISTORY: The black-footed polecat, North America's rarest mammal, feeds almost exclusively on prairie dogs and uses their burrows for shelter. The massive hunting of polecats and the poisoning of their main food source – prairie dogs – due to sylvatic plague, are among the causes attributed to the decline of this species.
